Contents of the Collection The Elliott N. Couden Airmail Collection is a relatively small collection that pertains to the early days of airmail via Pacific Air Transport (PAT), United Air Lines (UAL), and Varney Air Lines (VAL). It includes textual and photographic materials, dating from 1929-1944. Textual materials include both original and photocopies of clippings related to airmail pilots of the 1930s-1940s, including some of their crashes and deaths; and airmail service, including news about routes....

Abstract

Clyde Edward Pangborn (circa 1890s-1958) was born in Bridgeport, Washington and was a military pilot and barnstormer. The collection contains photographs and illustrations, correspondence, advertisements, newspaper clippings, a date book, military service records, and ephemera related to the Pangborn's personal life, military service, and barnstorming career from approximately 1912 to 1981.
