Biographical Note
George S. Schairer was born on May 19, 1913 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Swarthmore in 1934 and a master's degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1935.
Schairer worked for Bendix Aviation briefly before working for Consolidated Aircraft until 1939, when he joing Boeing as chief of the aerodynamics unit. He was involved in a number of Boeing aircraft, including the B-17, B-29, B-52, and the 707, among others. From 1959 to 1973 he was vice president for research and development at Boeing. He retired in 1978.
George S. Schairer died on October 28, 2004.
