The United States Army Air Forces (1941-1947; USAAF or AAF) were the military aviation service of the United States of America during and immediately after World War II, successor to the United States Army Air Corps and the direct predecessor of the United States Air Force.

Norman "Jim" Silas Archibald (1894-1975) of Seattle, Washington served in the U.S. Army Air Service, 95th Aero Squadron during World War I, and later published a bestselling book on his experience. He served again in the Air Force during World War II at home in Seattle. The collection contains correspondence, military documents, photographs, and other materials relating to Archibald's life and military service.

The Ole B. Bennedsen World War II Collection documents Bennedsen's service as a pilot of Boeing B-17 aircraft on operational missions over Germany near the end of World War II. This small collection includes a Pilot's Flight Log with entries from 1943-1945, a pay card, and a list of all of Bennedsen's 35 operational missions over Germany, which includes the dates and names of German cities. The Paul A. Ludwig Military Aviation Photograph Collection contains 2382 photographic prints and negatives with a very small amount of textual materials collected by Paul A. Ludwig and ranging from the late 1910s through the early 1980s. The bulk and strength of the collection is photographs of World War II-era aircraft and squadrons. The collection is nearly all copy prints from a variety of institutions and dozens of private collections.
