Historical Note
Aerlinte Eireann was established in 1947 to offer transatlantic flights from Ireland to New York City. However, a financial crisis prevented the service from starting and it was not until 1958 that the first transatlantic flight left Shannon, Ireland for New York City. The airline ceased operations in 1960 when it was merged into Aer Lingus.
