Historical Note

Loftleiðir, also known as Icelandic Airlines, was a private Icelandic airline that operated from 1944 to 1979. The airline was based at Reykjavík Airport in Reykjavík and mostly operated trans-atlantic flights linking Europe and America. It ceased operations when it merged with Flugfélag Íslands to form Icelandair.
