Historical Note

Established in 1946 Modern Air Transport, Inc., often seen as Modern Air, was a United States-based charter and supplemental air carrier. At different stages in its history its operations were based in Newark and Trenton, New Jersey; Baltimore, Maryland; and Miami, Florida. In 1968 the airline established an overseas base at Berlin Tegel Airport in what used to be West Berlin prior to German reunification. Between 1968 and 1974, operations increasingly focused on Berlin Tegel. The airline ceased operations in 1975 due to financial difficulties.

Contents of the Collection The Alfred Goldberg Photograph Collection contains photographs and a small number of textual materials that mostly pertain to aircraft construction and maintenance in the 1940s-1950s. It is likely the photographs were collected by Goldberg during his career at Bedek Aviation Company in an unknown position and as Superintendent of Maintenance at Flying Tiger Line. The collection has been broken down into two series: Photographs and Textual materials, which are both arranged alphabetically....
