The Paul J. Madden World War II Photograph Collection contains primarily visual materials and a small number of textual documents created or acquired by Madden during his time as a Navy photographer while aboard the USS Essex during World War II. William Orthman (1911-1990) was drafted into the United States Army in 1942. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater as Public Relations Officer. The collection is comprised of 340 photographs and a small amount of textual materials from his 1945-1946 service.
