Biographical Note: Guy M. Townsend

Guy M. Townsend III was born on October 25, 1920. He joined the Air Force and retired as a brigadier general. During his service, he served as chief of bomber test at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, among other posts. He was the first military pilot to fly the B-47 Stratojet, B-50 Superfortress, B-52 Stratofortress, and the prototype of the KC-135 Stratotanker.

After he retired from the miltiary, Townsend joined the Boeing Company as head of the Supersonic Transport operations organization. He retired from Boeing in 1986.

Guy M. Townsend died on March 28, 2011.
