Historical Note

The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the aerial warfare service component of the United States Army from 1926 to 1941. It then became the Army Air Forces (AAF) from 1941 to 1947 and finally the Air Force, from 1947 to present.

Colonel Ralph J. Moore Collection

Abstract Ralph James Moore (1909-1963) graduated from the Boeing School of Aeronautics in 1931, was a member of the Army Air Corps during the 1930s, and worked with the Civil Aeronautics Board through the 1930s and 1940s. The collection consists of manuscripts, maps, photographs, and clippings collected by Moore during his career in the Army Air Forces. The majority of the collection is comprised of Aircraft Accident Reports from the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA).

Smith World War II Photograph Collection is comprised largely of photographic and audiovisual material, including 2,115 prints, 83 negatives, and 5 film reels. The images were taken or collected by Howard E. Smith, a United States Army Air Corps Public Relations Officer and base photographer, primarily while he was stationed at Smoky Hill Army Air Field (SHAAF) in Salina, Kansas. Overview Major Norman George Stromer (1922-2019) was an Army Air Corps pilot who participated in bombing campaigns in the South West Pacific during World War II, served as part of the Military Air Transport Service (MATS), and worked as a fight inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This collection contains photographs, military records, certificates, and other textual materials documenting his military service, post-military career, and personal life, primarily dating from 1940-1960.
