Historical Note

The National Air Races (also known as Pulitzer Trophy Races) are a series of pylon and cross-country races that have taken place in the United States since 1920. During World War II and from 1950-1963, the races were on hiatus. In 1964, they resumed as the Reno National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada and are still ongoing.

Dorothy (Hester) Stenzel Collection

Abstract Dorothy (Hester) Stenzel (1910-1991) was born in Ardenwald, Oregon and learned to fly in the late 1920s. Stenzel then gained fame for stunt flying and broke several records through the mid-1930s. The collection contains seven (7) scrapbooks and assorted textual materials and photographs that document Stenzel's career as one of the first female stunt pilots.
